I’ve got awesome things to report. I made a few simple changes that improved my overall health and life.
I must admit it took me longer than I thought it would to get to this point. This usually happens to me when I lose focus.
I had to revisit some things to get back on track to start seeing results. Sounds familiar?
I used to look at moments of re-evaluation, re-strategizing or restart as a difficult or tedious process. Today, I know better.
It’s not only a wise thing to do, but it can also give us a fresh outlook when we are weary.
It can help us steer in the right direction. It boosts our faith and spiritual metabolism to keep-on-keeping-on!
What about you? Have you given up, slacked, forgot or got stuck with one or more of your goals? It’s never too late to do a great thing.
It’s not a waste of time to press pause, reexamine and course-correct as needed.
Life is short! We regroup, push the play button and take our diligence and persistence to new levels.
Most of the time we may need support and accountability to help us move forward in what we set out to do.
Yet, sometimes it is better to stay “solo” until the right people come along.
Nonetheless, company or no company, we must know for ourselves that God is with us. "He will never leave us or forsake us…” He will help us!
With Him and through Him we can get it done.
God is the source of ability and strength to our progress and success in all areas of our life, improving our health included!
So, get your gloves on and fight a good fight of faith. Let’s call this year our best year ever. Never give up!
I've been working on a few important goals: to grow more spiritually, to improve my health, finish my book and blog more often.
Just like in anything else you want to improve, you've got to set goals. A goal had to be specific, attainable and with a timeframe. I had to think through what I really wanted.
Before I move on, here is my quick disclaimer: Since I am not a physical trainer, doctor or nutritionist, I cannot recommend that what I did will work for you or that you should do it.
These changes have helped improve my overall health. I hope they inspire you to start or keep moving forward in your journey to feeling and looking better than you are today.
SIMPLE CHANGES TO IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
1. Exit the sugar road.
My eating habits and routine have changed significantly. Sugar is detrimental to your body. It can be the cause of many illnesses and disease like diabetes, cancer, memory loss, etc.
Sugar depletes the immune system, indeed debilitates our body. To stop the sugar cravings I up my intake of good fats. Which sounds like going against my second goal of losing fat, You would be surprised by what I found.
2. High fat - Good fat!
I am using fat for fuel. I didn't know that starting my day with good fats (like avocados, walnuts, even grass-fed butter) and small amounts of protein instead of carbs not only would prevent sugar cravings but it would replenish my energy.
I still do carbs of course but at much fewer amounts and I try to eat them on my last meal as much as possible.
One other thing that I can attribute to losing my belly fat is intermittent fasting.
Just in case you are interested, I will leave a few links at the bottom of this blog post with more information.
3. Stop drink bottled water!
I switched to purified water. It’s healthier and cheaper too! Now, in the morning, I drink approximately two (2) glasses of 24 ounces in the first 2-3 hours from the time I wake up.
Sometimes I add lemon juice or lemon essential oil to warm water to help with body detoxification and regular bowel movements. It works for me!
I do carry around a BPA free, reusable bottle to keep drinking water available when I am out and about my day.
I set up a few "Drink Water!" reminders on my iPhone to remind me throughout the day.
I've been drinking matcha tea or coffee occasionally! It has become now part of my daily moments where I spend time with God, “Coffee and Jesus!” I cannot imagine my life without quiet-time with God.
I need constant contact with my Heavenly Daddy. Matcha tea and Jesus are moments I inquire, listen for direction, receive instructions to my daily roll in His plan of execution.
I’m always amazed by how the Bible is full of advice, guidelines and even shortcuts!
I also found a few healthy beverages: Coconut Water, Coconut Milk, Collagen Shakes, Ginger/ Apple Cider Vinegar Juice, Sparkling Mineral Water and Golden Milk.
I am thankful for these new findings; I was so bored with only drinking water!
My exercise routine is consistent and shorter!
I do 10-20 minutes of strength training with cardio integrated, two days per week.
Have you heard about Pilates? It helps to strengthen your core and muscles. I encourage you to give it a try. You will feel amazing.
I do a 50-minute Pilates Reformer session three times per week.
I stretch every day.
I also bought a very inexpensive one-person trampoline to help me with mobilization, blood flow, and the lymphatic system. I jump from 5-10 minutes, depending on the day!
5. Sleep better!
My nights have also changed! Most nights, I aim to be in bed between 8:30 – 9 pm and ready to go to sleep by 10 – 10:30 pm.
I try to shut down technology as early as I can, I had no idea that the blue light used in technology can disturb, interrupt or delay sleep.
I no longer leave my iPhone or iPad (my husband either!) overnight in the bedroom. My go-to is the Bible, journaling or reading a book if we get to it ;).
It’s been quite a challenge for me to reset my circadian rhythm since I’ve been a “nite owl” or “night person” all my life.
I didn’t know that the deepest and probably most crucial time of our sleep happens from 10 pm – 2 am.
I am gaining more ground, you can too! None of us want to continue doing the same things expecting a different result!
Trusting God, stay teachable and persistent with your goals and a right attitude.
Checkmark on improving my health. I hope this conversation encourages you to make the changes you need in your life.
Checkmark on overcoming limitations and setting up goals.
Checkmark on growing more spiritually, that’s my next report coming up.
